My Approach to Therapy
TL;DR Summary
Each client is unique and requires a tailored, considered approach.
- Therapy length varies depending on each person, although I am particularly excited by those who would like to work together on a medium to long-term basis.
- However, we choose to work, our relationship will be incredibly important.
- I try to create a space that is safe, affirming, playful and that welcomes diversity and authenticity.
- I work with various LGBTQIA+ identities and practices, including diverse relationship structures.
An Individualised Approach
There are many different ways to think about and work with particular areas of interest or concern. I work integratively, which means that therapeutic approaches and techniques are collaboratively explored and developed with each client on an individual basis. I believe each client is unique and has their own strengths and challenges. This approach therefore takes into account your specific needs and expectations.
My view is that therapy is a meeting of two or more minds, each with their own particular experiences and expertise. As a result, interventions and techniques draw on many different schools of thought. Some of these include, but are not limited to Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, Relational Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness-based approaches.

Therapy Length
Your therapy journey may be short, medium or long-term depending on your particular needs and resources. We will make decisions about the length and nature of the therapy together, and your expectations and views are absolutely essential to this process. Having said that, however, I have a preference for medium to long-term work as I believe firmly that therapy is (unfortunately) not a magic potion. It can take time for insight, personal growth and lasting change to take place.
Our Relationship
Regardless of the length and nature of the therapeutic process, our relationship will be incredibly important throughout, both in what it allows for and as a useful tool in and of itself. Our relationship will help to create a safe space that invites curiosity, compassion and playfulness as we explore your world.
Welcoming Diversity and Authenticity
I try to create an environment that is safe and affirming, that welcomes diversity and authenticity, and facilitates self-reflection and growth. I am a proudly LGBTQIA+ affirming practitioner and work with various identities and practices such as lesbian, gay, heterosexual, pansexual, questioning, bisexual, asexual, aromantic, intersex, transgender, cisgender, genderqueer, agender, kinky, non-binary and gender non-conforming humans to name a few. I also work with diverse relationship structures such as open relationships, polyamory and relationship anarchy for instance.
My background in politics means I try to be particularly sensitive to the various sociopolitical contexts that impact aspects of identity and experience.

Intersectionality – the idea that we all have multiple intersecting aspects of our identity that impact one another – is an important part of my personal philosophy and I try to make space for experiences of marginalisation and minority stress in my work.
Please feel free to reach out if you think we may be a good fit.
